The current situation, a product of the global pandemic along with potential future scenarios, prompts us to reflect on contemporary needs and the role of the architect-urbanist as a generator of urban strategies. These strategies aim to address some of the demands through the incorporation of strategic facilities. Based on this situation, we decided to conduct our thesis in the city of Córdoba, Argentina.
One of the main challenges presented during COVID-19 was adapting routines to restrictions, indicating a lack of neighborhood autonomy. This triggered a shift in consumption and mobility logic in the city, highlighting the significant gap between consumers and producers and the need for local commerce.
Given this described situation, it becomes necessary to incorporate a typology capable of generating social friction through public space, production, work, education, and culture. The intervention developed seeks economic, social, and cultural activation in the territorial unit of neighborhoods.
To discuss a market as a sectoral activator, it is essential to clarify the various concepts attributed to the word. We propose a new definition:
"A market is not just the physical place where supply and demand transactions occur; it goes beyond that. The market is responsible for giving value to both the physical and social aspects. It enables the meeting, exchange, and interaction of social groups. Markets are architectural buildings appreciated over time because they describe an era and a society. They represent social evolution."
Scale categories for analysis:
1) Territorial 2) Urban 3) Sector 4) Architectural
Axis categories for analysis:
1) Socio-Economic 2) Mobility 3) Heritage 4) Environmental
Based on the above, we have outlined a series of objectives that guided us from the thesis stage and will be verified throughout the entire proposal:
- Incorporating agroecological markets to create new neighborhood-scale centralities, establishing local businesses and contributing to food sovereignty.
- Generating urban intervention strategies that involve the rehabilitation and recovery of urban facilities with industrial profiles and identity values, balancing the voids and their contexts.

Urban Scale Analysis to understand the location, quantity and connections of existent urban voids.
Sector Scale Analysis of site and “Ex-Brewery Rio Segundo” — neighborhood analysis
Urban void sites are classified as either Model A or Model B.
In Model A, the existing building occupies half the total site area, whereas in Model B, the existing building covers less than 50% of the site.
The model type will offer a clear understanding of the percentages allocated for internal and external cultivation, as well as administrative and educational spaces.
1rst Floor: Market
2nd Floor: Educational and Food Court Areas
Here you will find the site plan design for this Model A site, where 65% of the cultivation area is exterior and 25% is interior.
Additionally, there is a significant amount of exterior public and green space available for the neighborhood.
